When I was about 15 years old, I had a book of love spells. Yes, I was that girl. Probably got sparked sometime around when The Craft came out and I loved the idea of white magic.
I was desperately infatuated with a boy that didn’t love me back. We had “gone out” off and on for a while but were broken up and I still thought he was “the one”
I found a spell in my book to help with this very problem. It involved holding two pennies in your hand, reciting an incantation, and tossing them in the air. The result would be that “if the two of you are meant to be, so it shall be” and “if you aren’t meant to be, it will be over for good.”
The warning was not to cast this spell if you weren’t ready for absolute certainty. I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I wasn’t ready for the cruel truth that we weren’t meant to be together. So I pined after him for another year or so, until I was finally distracted by a new boy to crush on.
I’ve wised up since then. Because a cruel truth is better than a comfortable delusion.
A cruel truth is better than a comfortable delusion.
Now I want to get to the truth faster. If you don’t like me, let’s all move on with our lives – the people that love me, need my full heart and attention.
Same goes for industry professionals. If they’re not a fan of yours. If they don’t see the amazingness that is you. If they don’t want to cast you or sign you. Better to know now than in a year.
Any information is good information. It’s rarely personal. I can’t do anything with “maybe” but I can do something with “no”!
And if you’re the person holding onto the info as someone waits for an answer, do your best to summon the courage to set them free!
Toss those pennies!
