Newsflash: All the Golden Tickets have been found. You can stop buying chocolate bars!
We’ve all heard stories of people discovered at the mall, McDonalds, or in a Walmart parking lot. You’ve heard those stories because they’re rare. Very rare. One in a hundred-thousand is my guess – maybe worse odds than that. Yet every day, people still think it could be them. And I’m here to tell you it’s a losing game.
TIME FOR #WERK
Now it’s time to do the work. It’s never been easier to create something yourself. To show the industry why you deserve to be listened to. Why your particular voice is important. How *You* would add value if granted admission to the Chocolate Factory.
Issa Rae, Lena Dunham, The Duplass Brothers, all made things themselves. It was only when their projects were wildlysuccessful did the industry pay them any attention. They weren’t just sitting around eating chocolate.
WHY SHOULD THEY LET YOU IN?
If you don’t know what makes you special, it’s time to embark on a journey of self-discovery. Don’t wait around for someone to tell you what it is. Here’s a trick — start making things. Writing, shooting, performing, goofing off with friends and filming it. It’s in the making that you’ll find your voice. But it only comes after making A LOT! And I can hear you screaming through the computer, with the same limiting beliefs that I’ve told myself in past (so I get it!)
“I don’t want to be a content creator! I just want to ACT!”
While you’ve been buying chocolate, someone has moved your cheese (#MetaphorPile). The game changed, baby. Content creators are what the industry is looking for.
“I don’t know how!”
You will learn by doing.
“It costs too much money!”
It doesn’t have to. Get creative. Constraints can be magical!
Buying chocolate bars costs a lot too. Only you’re paying in time. The days, months, and years of your life. Searching for tickets you already know have been found.
